Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in Australia

Disclaimer: This DBT site is intended for Australian audiences. Information is general in nature and should not be relied on for diagnosis or treatment. You should consult a mental health professional for advice on your particular problems and the most appropriate treatment options.

It should be stressed that this is not an emergency service. If you are in need of urgent assistance please try contacting:

Lifeline: 13 11 14

Kids Helpline: 1800 551 800 (Children & Young People 5 – 25 years old)

Your local community Mental Health Team where available

Obviously you should call 000 if you or someone else is at significant risk of death or serious harm.

Please note that it is recommended that you see a therapist in conjunction with any self-help approaches, at least in the initial stages.

A range of helpful CDs & DVDs on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness are available for sale at www.behavioraltech.org. Some of the titles may be available through other booksellers such as www.Amazon.com.

Marsha Linehan has developed a number of short DVDs which describe some of the core DBT Skills. These DVDs are sometimes used by individuals, but can also be helpful to reinforce skills learnt during a group program.

One self-help book on DBT coping skills is:

The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook” - McKay, Wood & Brantley (2007).

Again this was available from Amazon and elsewhere when we last checked.
